Who writes our content
Our reviews are written by Daniel Brooks, Reviews Editor. Daniel is not a doctor, dietitian or pharmacist. He reports what supplement labels contain, what published research says about each ingredient, and what sellers’ terms say. He does not assess individual health needs, and nothing on this site is tailored to you.
Supplements and the FDA
In the United States, dietary supplements do not need FDA approval before they are sold. The FDA does not check that a supplement works or that the label is accurate before it reaches the market. Statements about supplements on this site and on sellers’ pages have not been evaluated by the FDA. Supplements are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first
Please speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any supplement, especially if you:
- Take prescription or over-the-counter medicine.
- Are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have a chronic condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart, liver or kidney disease.
- Have surgery coming up.
- Are buying for a child or someone over 65.
Never stop, start or change the dose of a prescribed medicine based on something you read here.
Emergencies
If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 right away. If you think you or someone else has taken too much of a supplement, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. We cannot answer medical questions by email.
Reporting a problem with a supplement
If you have a bad reaction to a supplement, stop taking it, contact your doctor, and consider reporting it to the FDA through its Safety Reporting Portal or MedWatch program.
Accuracy
We work to keep our pages accurate and current, but research and products change. See our editorial policy for how we handle updates and corrections.
